Elevation Gain: 4,300 ft.
Description: The hike will start in the Carolina Hemlocks Campground area and climb up the Colbert Ridge Trail to Deep Gap. We’ll then turn left on to the Black Mountains Crest Trail and continue over Potato hill, Cattail Peak, Balsam Cone, down to Big Tom Gap. We will continue down the Big Tom Gap connector trail to the Buncombe Horse trail for the long descent back to our cars. There will be a short road walk back to the cars. This is a very difficult hike with a lot of elevation gain, rocky terrain, overgrown trails and is for strong experienced hikers only. Email for meeting time and place.
